WTF is Cactus Leather?
Leather made with the leaves of a cactus plant is just as durable as "real leather".
Think this is BS?
We didn't believe it either, so we took it to the streets.
Before we launched, we tested the hell out of our designs with this new innovative leather made from Cactus.
We had no idea what to expect. We just knew we wanted to make epic leather goods that were vegan, sustainable and would endure everyday wear and tear for years to come. We didn't know how long this cactus leather would last, whether it would fall apart after a few months of use, or if it could actually replace animal skin.
We gave out prototypes to friends and family—people who use their wallets and bags every day, not just once in a while. Their only criteria was that they treat this Cactus Leather with no mercy.
We checked in with them every few months to see how their leather goods were going. To our surprise, all of them reported back that it wasn't falling apart & it looked as good as when they first got it!
Every few months our straight shooters sent us a photo of their item and their analysis...
So after our rigorous testing was complete we find out a few heavy weights announce they too are bringing to market the Cactus Leather made by our same manufacturer.
We knew that if BMW & Mercedes are upholstering some of their car interiors with Cactus Leather then we are onto a quality leather. These guys don't mess about.
Then we see Adidas, Givenchy, Karl Lagerfeld & Fossil add Cactus Leather to their collection so you can bet we were counting our lucky stars that we found Desserto® Cactus Leather.
Cactus leather is the
new sustainable material
of the future.
First, let's talk numbers: cactus absorbs 8100 tons of CO2 per year, while at the Desserto® farm they only generate 15.30 tons annually. That means they're actually absorbing 529 times more CO2 than they generate!
And it gets better: Desserto® only need 3 leaves to produce one linear meter of cactus leather, and each plant can be harvested up to 6-8 times a year without damaging the plant itself.
No irrigation needed,
these bad boys absorb
the water from the
humidity in the air.
So what does this mean for you? It means that you can now have quality leather goods that are not only good for the planet, but also has the same qualities as traditional leathers. And here's the best part: cactus leather is also vegan so you can wear leather that doesn't harm animals. It's the new material that will replace animal hide in years to come.
Keep these beautiful creatures off your plate and out of your wardrobe.
Righto, if it's not "real leather"
how do they make leather
out of cactus?
Baby Boomer, Anti-Vegan who's been dragged
to a Vegan Event but would rather be anywhere else.
The Prickly Pear Cacti are grown organically then harvested by cutting only the mature leaves every 6-8 months. These leaves are dried by the sun for three days, transformed into an organic raw material then mixed with non-toxic chemicals. Final steps are to colour & shape the leather into an array of textures.
Cactus naturally regenerates soil & can grow in severely degraded soils, which are inadequate for other crops.
So if you want to make an environmentally friendly statement with your leather goods, it doesn't get much better than this.
